Investigating Some Risk Factors Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic in the Middle-aged and Elderly

Objectives: The outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has influenced all age groups; however, the risk mortality increases with age. Several factors impact development this disease. This study aimed to determine relationship between some in COVID-19 among community dwellers ≥50 years age.This cross-sectional was performed at Shahroud University Medical Sciences from April 1, 2019, June 20, 2020. Methods & Materials: conducted on individuals aged years, including middle-aged and aging suspected referring registration centers Feb. 20th Jun. 20th, basis for diagnosing cases a positive Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) test based nasopharyngeal swab or Computed Tomography (CT) scan. data used included demographic information, history smoking, comorbidities. Data analysis SPSS by descriptive statistics, Chi-squared test, Independent Samples t-test, logistic regression model. Results: In first 4 months outbreak, 3945 suspicious were referred healthcare centers. After removing missing cases, 3119 registered 1348 participants years. Of eligible participants, 602 diagnosed COVID-19, 303 males. obtained suggested that Mean±SD subjects 66.62±11.33 Diabetes (P=0.014) other comorbidities, such as asthma, acute respiratory, hepatic kidney diseases, cancer borderline significantly increased incidence 38% 32%, respectively. An increase one unit Body Mass Index (BMI) (P=0.002) enhanced odds infection 4%. Conclusion: Based multivariate results, high BMI diabetes significant subjects. conclusion emphasizes importance assessment patients groups.
